Hi, My Name Is Brenda

I was born and raised in the beautiful country of Kenya in East Africa.  I loved my childhood and have great memories. I was fascinated by observing the world around me; how we kids played, our families, and how grown-ups seemed engulfed in their own thoughts as they went onto their daily businesses.  One of my greatest memories is walking to pick up my younger brother from nursery school; the interactions between parents and teachers, and how different people behaved all seemed to fascinate me.   Guess that is where my observational lens started.  As I grew older I realized that I had a passion for observing how various health issues overlapped with each other especially when they overlapped with race and culture.

I have always looked at issues with an analytical lens where I understand that one size doesn’t fit all.  I like having conversations on how different issues in one’s life impact one’s life and health.  I know that too well because as an immigrant to North America, I am proud of my heritage, my skin, my faith, lessons from my parents, and the village at large and I cannot be ignorant about how all these things impact my own health.

I am a Social and Behavioral Health Consultant and passionate about the integration of Health Psychology and Sexology. I have a BSc in Psychology and a Masters in Public Health.  My greatest passion has always been in the field of Sexology but with life curves, it was never the right time to follow through with this path but things do work out in the long run and I was finally able to complete my Graduate certificate studies in Sexual Health in Rehabilitation medicine.  I have worked in the field of Mental Health and Social services for over 15 years serving at different capacities.

I work from an individualized and socially conscious perspective.  I have facilitated workshops on different forums on intersectional topics such as Mental Health, Race, Gender, and Sexuality such as:
